'''Night Dweller''' was published in the November 1965 issue of New Worlds Science Fiction 'The Wrecks of Time.' The short story is one of [[Terry Pratchett]]'s earliest science fiction works, predating {{TDSOTS}} by eleven years. The plot centres on a spacecraft called the Ear, crewed by four staff, in a future where humanity can reach the edge of the solar system and has discovered lifeforms that can survive in the [[Sun-dogs|vacuum of space]]; some of which are vastly more terrifying and dangerous than others. 

The story is written from a first person perspective in the form of a captains log and has a very dark and melancholy tone. Night Dweller has not yet been republished in any other work or anthology.
