One of the eight orders of wizardry.
Annotation
One of the rituals originated by magician and mystic Aleister Crowley, when he was a member of the Roundworld secret society of ritual magicians called the Golden Dawn, was one that purportedly conferred invisibility on the mage.
This involved visualising and invoking the "starry mantle of black midnight" which, in the best Emperor's New Clothes fashion, was then donned by the Mage, who then implored the invisible guardians to admit him/her to "the Order of Midnight Brethren who walk unseen among us"
Perhaps this Order once specialised in matters of magically distorting perceptions of reality...
