I've always wondered what the abuse filter was supposed to do. Now that it seems to have done something, I still wonder how. Old Dickens (talk) 02:13, 29 January 2025 (UTC)
It uses a user-defined set of rules to check user actions and respond. It didn't do anything until now because it had no rules to follow; the one I've imported and modified for us checks for certain keywords (the sort that make it likely they're adding spam links) when a new user makes their first edit (including creation of a new page), and unless they also have certain other keywords (things that suggest they actually know what kind of wiki they're editing), prevents that edit and blocks them. -- Guybrush (talk) 05:02, 29 January 2025 (UTC)
