Painterofflowers loved this book. It is the best audio book I have listened to in my hours of work commute each day. I very much enjoyed Dodger and Solomon, Simplicity, Mr. Dickens and Mr. Peel, all of the historical characters and their antics, regardless of the historical accuracy. The characters were believable and so much a part of what turned out to be a wonderful story, one I wish had another installment of the adventures of Dodger, soon to follow. To hear the mention of each familiar historical character was like a welcome to the party to an old friend or foe... I think I have found a new favorite author. Since this is my first Terry Pratchet book, I can only hope that I will enjoy each of his many other books as much! I feel very lucky to have found him as i am always looking for good books to listen to on my commute, working in the yard, makes the tough stuff go by faster when you are living in another world, especially if it is a well created world! Colin Smythe points out that the book is set in the alternate nineteenth-century London of the Nation universe. "Children's" indeed! Old Dickens 03:00, 6 March 2012 (CET)
In the sampler the "alternative London" aspect isn't immediately apparent. Maybe its the layout of London, or it gets "steampunk" later on, but the sampler reads like a historical piece. Marmosetpower 09:42, 2 June 2012 (CEST)
