The Steady Gait Hypothesis is an astrozoological theory about the nature of Great A'Tuin. It states that A'Tuin had come from nowhere and would continue at an uniform crawl (a "steady gait", hence the name) into nowhere, for all time. This theory was popular among academics, whereas religious people tended to favor the Big Bang Hypothesis.
A young Krullian cosmochelonian of this faction, while testing a new telescope (which he intended to use to study the World Turtle's right eye), was the first to observe the fire of Ankh-Morpork.
