I moved user:HonestTom's Klatch article here. Please sort through the texts. I turned Klatch into a disambiguation page. --Death 18:25, 3 July 2006 (CEST)

Gebra?

What book mentions Gebra as a city? Sourcery mentions Mount Gebra, but not a city called Gebra. Of course, the city name would actually be Al Gebra = algebra, another pun! Kellyterryjones 03:05, 28 March 2008 (CET)

It's in Jingo - Gebra was where Lord Rust wanted to attack - it was a hard trek over much desert to Mount Gebra. The fort below it was called the Fist of Gebra, and was considered impenetrable, with walls twenty feet thick, if I remember correctly. It was helpful to Lord Vetinari to know that the Klatchian troops were headed there, as he was informed by Beti, and not to En al Sams La Lisa.It may have been the scene of the final football as well, but I'm not sure.--Hapenny 03:31, 28 March 2008 (CET)

The name Klatch may also refer to the tendency of its inhabitants to gather to talk while drinking coffee, as in the original kaffeeklatsch.

You spoil us, mr Ambassador

I was looking back through Jingo with a copy of The Streets of Ankh-Morpork to hand, to see if I could establish a precise location for the Klatchian Embassy in Ankh-Morpork. This of course is a part of the action in the early part of the book when it catches fire, and Vimes is faced with resolving the niceties of international diplomatic law and convention before the Watch can go in and help. (OK, so he still thumps the gate guard anyway, but this seems to do the trick).

Now the fire should be visible as a red glow in the sky from Scandal Alley (Gorriff's Kebab Shop, where Sam is dealing with young Gorriff wounding a customer and deterring an anti-Klatchian mob from burning the premises down). It should also be visible from Ossie Brunt's lodgings in Market Street, where Carrot and Angua are making a rather more thorough follow-up of Colon and nobbs' report.

Ah, here we are, how easy - Carrot and Angua both realise there's an un-natural red glow in the sky above Park Lane. I was all set to triangulate the map and see where the lines of sight crossed...--AgProv 20:21, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Geography

Does anyone have a reference to "rainforests' or "jungles" (or even volcanoes) in the famously dry country of Klatch? These seem to belong to the continent rimward. They seem possible in the (occupied?) territory of Ymitury but I don't know that there's a reference. --Old Dickens (talk) 01:53, 19 November 2015 (UTC)

Fixed. The Compleat Discworld Atlas has several pages on Klatch the country and confirms it's all desert. The parellel appears to be everything geopolitical about Egypt except for pyramids and funny walks - more the post-seleucid, Ptolomeic and Byzantine Egypt of the Caliphates, post-Islamic exansion. It's a long and detailed exposition and I hope to work it into the main page, or at least as much as it can take. AgProv (talk) 10:32, 30 March 2016 (UTC)
