Surrounded by cabbages, the kingdom of Sto Lat lies at the base of the vast Sto Plains, only about 20 miles from Ankh-Morpork. It appears to be a very old city, the source of the ancient language of the rimward Sto Plains, Latatian.
Home to Princess Keli (now Queen Keli) and the Wizard Igneous Cutwell, Sto Lat contains or controls the city-states of Sto Helit, Sto Kerrig, and other territories, such as the Long Thin Debated Piece Hubwards of Sto Kerrig. (Mort was made Duke of Sto Helit after his delivery of Keli from, well, himself.)
Major appearance in: Mort. Also appears in Going Postal as the first foreign city to which the revived Ankh-Morpork Post Office made an official delivery, and where Moist von Lipwig defrauded Adora Belle Dearheart at the bank. In Going Postal, it has a Mayor, suggesting that the day to day affairs of running the town, such as welcoming the Mail and excluding suspect musical acts, are undertaken by the Mayor, whilst the Queen oversees the more important affairs of state. Sto Lat also has a prestigious Military Academy, and may once have had a less-than-prestigious Army regiment and is home to Apsly's Commercial Bank.
The name is derived from a Polish song equivalent to the English "For he's a jolly good fellow," in which the subject is wished a life one hundred years ("sto lat") long. There's More Polish in Discworld if you look for it.
