Talk:Bes Pelargic
Didn't I read something about foreigners being only allowed in the docklands area of a Chinese city? Has anyone any more details? Marmosetpower 13:24, 31 January 2012 (CET)
Certainly in Japan: English and Dutch traders were rstricted to (I think) the port of Nagasaki. (although initially, Spanish and Portuguese missionary priests were allowed wider freedoms, they were soon restricted when the japanese authoprities became alarmed at the dvisive spread of Christianity). Some speculation that occurred to me in a fit of fan fiction: people in Bes Pelargic are more likely to encounter foreigners and hear news from the rest of the world than the mass of Agateans. The Imperial Institute of Information (Ministry of Propaganda, whatever...) promotes the idea that Bes Pelargic natives (a demonym would be handy, but hard to guess) are a bit daft or stupid and not to be believed. This reduces the corrosive effect of truth on the official version of life outside the Wall. --Old Dickens (talk) 03:25, 29 March 2017 (UTC)
