Talk:Book:Turtle Recall
To be honest, I looked at this book in the shop at the same time I bought The Compleat Ankh-Morpork, and wondered whether to buy or not. I felt fairly disappointed: maybe I just know the subject matter too well, but there really didn't seem to be all that much new information in it. In previous editions the endpapers have carried bonus material, like expanded city maps, but here - just blank pages. I know there is stuff in the diaries and yearbooks that can be treated as canonical - but not all of it has made it here, similarly with material from "Discworld Noir". I was wrong-footed over Mme Deux-Epées, for instance, in that her backstory was in the Assassins' Guild Yearbook but did not make it over to the Companion - there is enough there to justify at least a brief entry. (I'm still looking for second-hand copies of the Yearbooks at reasonable prices - idiot me that I never bought them at the time, thinking they were just ephemeral.)How much else might have been missed?
I might buy the paperback (or a second-hand copy on Amazon/Ebay), but honestly I'm not rushing out to get the hardback - it really feels like they're milking it.AgProv (talk) 14:44, 27 December 2012 (PST)
No, probably not enough in it to be worthwhile for many. I seem to recall that you have an original Companion while I had only The New Discworld Companion, so I can use some of the reprinted material as well as the recent entries but "milking it" may be justified. Once again you've made the image twice as big as necessary. (I usually do that myself, first try.) --Old Dickens (talk) 15:24, 27 December 2012 (PST)
