Talk:Prid of Ankh-Morpork

While sea-faring people like to omit the definite article before ships' names, most use it to distinguish, e.g., the Queen Mary from the old bat herself. Now see elsewhere in the book: "we haven't had any warships since the Mary-Jane sank four hundred years ago" and then Mary-Jane where the title conforms but the body contains "the H.A.M.M.S. Mary-Jane", which is more seriously wrong. (Although I'm not sure where H.A.M.M.S. comes from or what it stands for.)

Wikipedia is ambivalent on the use of the article where there is no other prefix.

In a title, however, "The" should be avoided whenever possible, along with ranks, honorifics et al. --Old Dickens (talk) 22:48, 11 October 2013 (GMT)
