The Boy

Surprisingly (at least to Sam Vimes) "the Boy" is an official position in many grand houses. The lowest in the servants' hierarchy, all unpleasant tasks fall to him, such as cleaning the privies, scullery in the kitchen, helping the gardener, taking the garbage and the Blame. The same sort of apprentice servant is often called "Boots" in the stately homes of Roundworld, after another of his primary duties: cleaning and polishing the family footwear. A lowly position to be sure but one must start somewhere.
Servants to have held this role:
- Willikins - now the Ramkin butler
- Forthwright - left to be a drummer boy in Jingo despite lack of any musical talent, presumably has since returned to his lot but awaiting greater things to come.
